9/4/2012 ~ Easter Monday
Date | 10/4/2012 |
Time | 8.15 am - 9.15 am |
Class | 4 Science 3 |
Subject | Chemistry |
Theme | Matter Around Us |
Learning Area | Periodic Table Of Elements |
Learning Objective | Analysing elements in a Period |
Learning Outcome | Student is able to : g) Identify the positions of the transition elements in the Periodic Table h) Give examples of transition elements i) Describe properties of transition elements j) State uses of transition elements in industries |
Activities | Discuss : a) Changes in the properties of elements across Period 3. b) Properties of transition elements with respect to melting points, density, variable oxidation numbers and ability to form coloured compounds. |
Noble Values | Appreciating the contribution of science and technology. |
Teaching Aids | a) Text book |
Reflection | Before the lesson start, teacher recalls back their knowledge by discuss the term electronegativity and electropositivity regarding Group 1 elements and Group 17 elements. All of students understand well and only then teacher proceeds with elements in period 3. At first, about 10 of the students do not understand the trend of atomic radius because they get confuse with the trend of size in the Group 17 elements. Teacher reinforces again by comparing both trend and use analogy to make them understand better. Students have no problems with lesson of transition elements, their properties and uses. Students do exercises to evaluate their understanding. |
Date | 10/4/2012 |
Time | 9.45 am - 10.55 am |
Class | 5 Science 1 |
Subject | Chemistry |
Theme | Interaction Between Chemicals |
Learning Area | Oxidation And Reduction |
Learning Objective | Analysing redox reaction |
Learning Outcome | Student is able to : f) Explain with examples oxidizing and reducing agents in redox reactions |
Activities | Collect and interpret data on oxidation, reduction, redox reaction, oxidising agent and reducing agent based on : c) transfer of electron |
Noble Values | Appreciating the balance of nature. |
Teaching Aids | a) Text book c) Mahjong paper d) Marker pens |
Reflection | All of students have no problem to identify the process of oxidation and reduction. They also able to define the meaning of redox reaction. Teacher also discovers that students have no problems to identify the oxidizing agent and reducing agent. They find it is easy when define redox reactions in terms of loss or gains of oxygen as well as loss or gains of hydrogen. But during activity time, teacher discovers that student do not really master in applying their previous knowledge on electron transfer in identifying the oxidation and reduction process. They get confuse and difficult to find which one is oxidation and reduction process. Teacher monitors and guides them. Only two groups are able to present today. Other presentations will proceed on the next lesson. Teacher has to give more exercises since most of the students do not really master the redox reaction in terms of electron transfer. Today's objectives only achieved about 90%. |
Date | 10/4/2012 |

Activities | Test on their memory regarding chapter 3 and 4 |
Noble Values | Appreciating the balance of nature. |
Teaching Aids | a) Textbook |
Reflection | Today's objective is not achieved since most of the students do not remember yet and not serious enough. Only 7 of the students pass the test and able to give correct answers for all the questions given by teacher. Test continues on the next class to make sure all of they are able to remember the formula and elements. |
