Week 27(2/7/2012-6/7/2012)

Date

2/7/2012

Time

8.15 am – 9.25 am

Class

5 Science 1

Subject

Chemistry

Theme

Interaction  Between Chemicals

Learning Area

Thermochemistry

Learning Objective

Understanding heat of combustion

Learning Outcome

Student is able to :
a) State what heat of combustion is
b) Determine the heat of combustion for a reaction
c) Construct an energy level diagram for a combustion reaction
d) Compare the heat of combustion of various alcohols
e) State what fuel value is
f) Describe the difference between heats of combustion of various alcohols
g) Describe the applications of fuel value
h) Compare and contrast fuel values for various fuels
i) Solve numerical problems related to heat of combustion.

Activities

Discuss and calculate the heat of combustion.

Noble Values

Appreciating the contribution of science and technology.

Teaching Aids

a) Textbook
b) Reference book

Reflection

Students have no difficulties and able to solve the problems regarding heat of combustion. But, several of students get confuse with the calculation of fuel values. This is because, examples shown in the textbook is not clear. Teacher gives other examples and shows the conversion of unit in order to get the fuel values. Only then they are able to do the calculation. Today's objectives are achieved.

Date

Class

4 Science 2

Subject

Chemistry

Theme

Interaction Between Chemicals

Learning Area

Electrochemistry

Learning Objective

Analysing the electrolysis of aqueous solutions

Learning Outcome

Student is able to :
a) Identify cations and anions in an aqueous solution.
b) Describe the electrolysis of an aqueous solution.
c) Write half equations for the discharge of ions at the anode and cathode.
d) Predict the products of electrolysis of aqueous solutions.

e) Explain using examples factors affecting electrolysis of an aqueous solution.

Activities

Discuss the electrolysis of aqueous solution and factors affecting electrolysis in aqueous solution

Noble Values

Appreciating the contribution of science and technology.

Teaching Aids

a) Text book
b) Reference book

Reflection

Today's lesson only discuss on the second factor that affect the end product of electrolysis. About 10 of the students need further explanation since they do not understand how the concentration affects the anode. Teacher monitors and guides them for all the questions given. The rest of the students are able to do the exercises.
